Gifts and Consequences

"Ah, it still has that new-book smell!"

Today was such a big day for me, I just have to take a minute for shameless self promotion.

I know it was a great day in my writing career because the release of the Hatter paperback on Amazon was NOT the big news of the day.  The highlight was the electronic release of my third book: Gifts and Consequences.

Cover by Jodie Coleman

Gifts and Consequences is a departure from the Young Adult Fantasy genre in which I wrote Jabberwocky and Hatter.  It is Contemporary Fiction with Romantic elements.  So why not just call it Romance?  Apart from the ridicule I would face at the fire station, there is so much more to it than a love story.  This is a book I can proudly recommend to any reader--man or woman.

Here's the blurb:

When multi-millionaire Jonathan Wheeler’s wife contracts a debilitating illness, it transforms both of their lives. No longer concerned with business and finance, Jonathan turns his attention to giving. But no gift comes without a price, and those unwilling to pay the price learn that no gift comes without a consequence.

The recipients of these gifts vary as greatly as the terms of Jonathan’s unusual contracts. From the high school Senior who gets sold-out concert tickets, and the food addict who receives tuition to a weight loss program, to the man who is given the chance to walk to the ends of the earth to save his true love’s life.

Each accepts the gift with the understanding that there’s always a catch, and anyone who agrees to Jonathan’s terms risks losing even more than they stand to gain.

Gifts and Consequences is a tragic love story full of beauty and heartbreak and hope.

While there is no graphic sex or violence, the story contains adult themes, as opposed the the Young Adult books I've written previously.

You can pick up a Kindle sample and/or purchase it here.  Try a sample, read the book, spread the word!

Happy Mad Hatter Day (to my British friends)!

"Why in the world is June 10th Mad Hatter Day in the UK?"

I'm glad you asked!  The British form of writing dates is day/month/year (which always made sense to me since it's smallest unit to biggest).  So today is 10/6/11.  The Mad Hatter is known to wear the price tag on his hat: 10/6.  So in the UK, the unofficially and obscure day is today.  In the US it rolls around on 10/6 as well, which is October 6 to us.

I wanted to release my newest novel today in honor of Mad Hatter Day, but due to last minute changes (read: improvements), it isn't ready.  Look for it later this week!  Here's the working draft of the cover:

Blog Tour -- Author Interview

Check out my very first interview as an author.  It's part of my 2-week book blog tour.

Today I'm at Basically Amazing.  Here's a snippet from the interview:
Q: If you had only one thing to say to your readers, what would it be?
A: I realize it takes a tremendous amount of trust to try a new author.  Your time is valuable and your reading time is invaluable...

Book Blog Tour Catchup

On Monday I started a Book Blog Tour to promote Jabberwocky.  If you have no idea what that is (like me just a few days ago), various book bloggers will review Jabberwocky one day, and I will write a guest post the following day.  Here are samples from the first 3 posts to get us caught up:

Monday
Just Another Book Addict Review
http://justanotherbookaddict.blogspot.com/2011/05/jabberwocky.html

Excerpt: Coleman definitely has a knack for story telling and I definitely wouldn't mind reading more of his work.

Tuesday
My Teenage Garage Sale
http://justanotherbookaddict.blogspot.com/2011/05/daniel-colemans-teenage-garage-sale.html

Excerpt: My sister’s Nelson tapes, videos, posters, shirts. (Sorry, Veronica) I’d gladly put these in the ‘FREE’ bin. If you are too young or forgetful to know who Nelson is, consider yourself lucky.

Wednesday
Basically Amazing Review
http://basicallyamazing.blogspot.com/2011/05/review-jabberwocky-by-daniel-coleman.html

Excerpt: Honestly, I could not have been happier with how this book turned out. I was almost worried about reading it, because I do have such fond memories of the poem, but I was beyond delighted with how the book turned out. Coleman did a fabulous job combining his own story with the tale from Lewis Carroll and it's one I can see myself reading again.
